Born March 22, 1932, in Hunlock Creek, he was the son of the late William (Lester) and Gertrude (Haas) Baer.
Marvin was a graduate of Hunlock Creek High School and went on to work for many years as an electrician with UGI. He also proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
A man of deep and unwavering faith, Marvin was a devoted and faithful Christian. He served as a deacon and was a longtime member of Woodland Bible Church. He was also a member of American Legion Post 239 in Shickshinny.
Marvin enjoyed the simple blessings of life. He loved hunting, wildlife, and spending time in nature. Above all, he cherished the time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed doing puzzles and, in his later years, spending his days at the Shickshinny Senior Center, where he found enjoyment and formed many valued friendships.
Surviving are his daughters, Darcy Baluka and her former husband, Daniel, of South Carolina, and Diane Marvin and her husband, Eugene, of Shickshinny; grandchildren, Candice (David) Taylor, Stephen (Kymmie) Baluka, Tonya (Chris) Cumberland, and Joelle (Brett) Brandes; great-grandchildren, Daelyn and Jesse Taylor, Skylar and Abigail Baluka, and Caleb, Garrett, and Cadence Cumberland; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gloria (Lanning) Baer; and siblings, Evelyn Davenport, Willard Baer, William Baer, and Glenn Baer.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, March 13, 2026 at 11:00 am from the Piatt Funeral and Cremation, 6 Sunset Lake Road, Hunlock Creek, with Pastor Neil Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Benscoter Cemetery, Hunlock Creek.
Relatives and friends are welcome to greet the family from 10:00 am until time of service at the funeral home.
Marvin will be remembered for his strong faith, kind heart, love of family, and the quiet joy he found in God’s creation and in the company of those he loved.
