Betty Lou Johnson, 84, of Shickshinny, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Friday, September 11, 2026, at Glen Brook Rehabilitation in Berwick.
Born and raised in Shickshinny, she was the cherished daughter of the late Jesse and Margaret (Corcoran) Davenport. Betty Lou dedicated much of her life to caring for others, working for many years as a compassionate nurse’s aide at the Retreat State Hospital. Her boundless capacity for love extended far beyond her career; alongside her devoted husband, Robert, she opened her heart and home to 23 foster children over the years, providing them with safety, warmth, and family.
Betty Lou found great joy in the simple pleasures of the outdoors. Whether she was camping, gathering for family milestones, or simply out tending to her lawn, she was happiest when surrounded by those she loved.
In addition to her parents, she was reunited in heaven with her siblings, Harold Davenport, Dominic Davenport, and Marion Cragle, as well as her beloved grandson, Jesse Sterowski.
Her legacy of love lives on through her husband, Robert Johnson; her daughters, Pamela Sedorchuk (Roman) of Shickshinny and Brenda Bilby (Aaron) of Berwick; her grandchildren, Kristin Fuoco (Joey), Jon Wright (Amber), Matt Wright (Nikki), and Eily Wright; three adored great-grandchildren; and a large, grateful family of foster children who will always carry her memory.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Piatt Funeral and Cremation, 6 Sunset Lake Road, Hunlock Creek. A second visitation will be held Thursday morning, September 17, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 noon, with Pastor Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Sorber Cemetery in Shickshinny.
